In case you didn’t get enough of Thursday night’s episode of The Office rather than NBC airing a supersized version during the usual broadcast, the network is releasing the “producer’s cut” on their website, complete with extra scenes that didn’t make it into the official episode.
I kind of love this idea. While it’s enjoyable to watch the normal-sized episode on TV and then catch some of the deleted scenes on NBC.com later in the week, having the cut scenes edited back into the episode and making the big-cut available for viewing online is a nice little twist. For one thing, deleted scenes are always fun but sometimes they’re a bit clippy and off because they’re out of context with the actual episode. This way we have an excuse to re-watch the episode while also getting to see the footage that didn’t quite fit into the half-hour version.
The producer’s cut of the recent episode, titled “Frame Toby” will be available on NBC.com on Tuesday, November 25th. In the episode, Michael and Dwight try to frame Toby so that they can get him fired. Meanwhile, Jim tries to work up the nerve to break the news to Pam that he bought them a house. It’ll be interesting to see what little tidbits were cut and how they fit into the episode’s story.
